Are they just a ‘jobs creation’ scam by Politicians
Global Warming - there is little doubt that we have created a proportion of the 0.8 degree increase in Global Temperature since the start of the Industrial
Revolution. Many will remember the 100’s of industrial chimneys belching out black smoke - but they have gone ! The atmosphere is cleaner now, although
we still have an accepted problem with Co2 and more especially with excessive Methane! What I don’t understand about Global Warming is that you would
expect a certain condition to exist and that condition to progressively move in one direction - very much like ageing ! But here in the UK that does not appear
to be the case. The winter before this one past, was cold, quiet and icy. The notorious winter before that was cold, quiet, seriously snowy and icy. And if I
remember correctly of the two previous winters, one was windless and wet with not one gale and the other was just an average West Coast Scottish winter.
So where is the consistency there ?
Every dog must have his Day however - and the weather Gods have played into the hands of the Renewables Brigade over the latter half of 2011 with quite
the strongest winds for the longest period of time anyone can remember. So I repeat - where is the consistency with previous years ??
The Scottish Government through Energy Minister Fergus Ewing are making proud boasts about their latest figures showing that renewables produced 35%
of our electricity needs in 2011. A manipulated figure because we believe 31% to be correct. They based their figure on our electricity usage for the previous
year when their Turbines were stationary much of the time and when demand was thankfully being supplied by our traditional reliable Power Stations !
I am happy to say to Mr Ewing that yes - your windmills, in very exceptional conditions, produced 31% of electricity requirements but also point out the obvious
ie. how much was at night when it was not needed, how much was at weekends when again demand was lower, how much could be relied on to power up our
homes, shops and Industries when we really needed it - none is the answer. Is that worth the £46 Billion Pounds still to be spent over and above the Billions
already wasted. We have reliable sources of electricity in this country - why waste money on these toy town schemes.
So Mr Ewing - I’ll accept your 31% as long as you accept my statement that this year it might only be 10% or even less - who knows ? But should that
airy fairy situation be the basis on which the UK’s electricity supply is based ?
But - wait a minute - the money is not coming out of the Politicians’ kitty is it ?. Little is being taken out of the Exchequer either in Edinburgh or Westminster
to finance this pipe dream. The huge long term debts are being made the responsibility of all of us who switch on a light or a kettle. It is all being paid for
directly through our Utility bills, so no wonder the Politicians love it, it’s not taking money out of their political purses!
